The Microsoft Azure Ecosystem in 2023

In the hotly-contested cloud market, Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, and Google Cloud Platform each have a large share. Lately, Microsoft has been experiencing an updraught that could be attributed to several factors. Microsoft Azure is a champion of the little guy, nearly half of Azure’s client base (49%) spends less than $1k per month on the platform. Azure also has a large share of customers who use only Azure — almost 75% — and these customers represent more global regions than any other cloud provider. HG Insights’ Global Sensor Network collects data on roughly 282,000 Azure customers and over 1.7 million Microsoft Office customers. In 2021, Microsoft’s commercial cloud revenue grew 36% year-over-year, surpassing $19.5 billion. We wanted to provide an overview and share some insights about how this revenue is generated.
