Since ChatGPT’s viral launch and the rise of Large Language Models (LLMs), generative AI has become the centerpiece of innovation across industries.

It’s not all talk, either – according to an EY survey, using AI-powered tools in the workforce has surged to 75% at the end of 2024, up from 22% in 2023. They found that the highest level of usage could be attributed to the tech sector (90%), with the government and public sectors having the lowest usage (60%).

HG wanted to dig into the market, using our own proprietary data, to understand the rate of generative AI adoption across industries and companies. We analyzed our annual HG Insights AI 1000™ list, a guided ranking of the 1000 most AI-ready organizations and industries today.

This report will dig into average AI maturity by company size and name the most AI-ready companies in top industries.

With this AI readiness assessment, you can gain a better understanding of where leaders across industries currently stand – Are they considering or researching AI? Is the organization ready for AI adoption? Do they have the infrastructure to implement AI? – and where there are opportunities to grow.

Assessing AI Maturity by Company Size

This chart shows the average AI Maturity score by company size (revenue) for the HG Insights AI 1000™, according to the HG AI Maturity Index. The average AI maturity of the entire list is 24.5/100. 

According to HG’s data, companies with higher revenue have higher AI Maturity scores, with companies earning over $1 billion scoring an average of 27.9.

Average AI Maturity by Company Employee Count

The increase in AI maturity scores is less linear when analyzed by the number of employees, but the largest tier – organizations with more than 10,000 employees – still has the highest average AI Maturity score (28.9).

AI Readiness Across Industries

This chart shows the average AI Maturity level by industry, according to the HG AI Maturity Index. Ten industries exceed the average AI Maturity score of the entire HG Insights AI 1000™ list (24.5).

Telecommunications has the highest average AI Maturity across industries. However, it still only reaches a score of 34/100. This indicates how far many enterprises have to go if they are to be in a position to capitalize on new and emerging AI technologies.

Most AI-Ready Companies by Industry

In this section, we’ll take a look at three of the top industries to understand their AI ambition, adoption, and readiness for implementing AI tools. We will also rank the top ten companies by AI-maturity within each industry.

1. Telecommunications 

According to the AI Maturity Index, Telecommunications is the most AI-ready industry going into 2025. This chart shows the top ten Telecom companies by AI Maturity score.

 

 

 

Telecom outpaces other industries, including the technology sector, in its preparedness to harness the potential of AI. This remarkable achievement underscores the telco industry’s proactive approach to AI strategy, adoption, and commitment to staying ahead of the curve.

2. Banking and Financial Services

This chart shows the top ten Banking and Financial Services companies by AI Maturity score.
